Nebraska licenses electricians through the Nebraska State Electrical Division (NSED) — a single statewide licensing authority, with no county or municipal competency cards layered on top.

Nebraska has no OSHA State Plan; electrical safety enforcement comes directly from Federal OSHA’s regional office, with no state-run equivalent to fall back on for interpretation.

Nebraska is the only state in the country served entirely by public power — state law prohibits investor-owned electric utilities from operating here. Omaha Public Power District, Nebraska Public Power District and Lincoln Electric System, together with a network of smaller public power districts, run the entire grid; there is no Dominion or Duke Energy equivalent to point to.

Meatpacking and food processing — Tyson, JBS and Cargill all run large Nebraska plants — carry some of the state’s heaviest continuous electrical load, alongside Union Pacific Railroad, headquartered in Omaha and running major classification yards across the state.
