OSHA requires employers to protect workers from electrical hazards on the job, and a documented, competent training program is central to meeting that duty. Untrained or under-trained workers face real risk from electric shock and arc flash — hazards that can cause serious injury in a fraction of a second — and employers who can't demonstrate adequate training are exposed to both safety incidents and regulatory citations.
OSHA's electrical safety regulations set the legal duty to protect workers, but are largely performance-based — they describe the outcome required without prescribing every detail of how to get there. NFPA 70E is the widely recognized consensus standard that fills that gap, giving employers a practical framework for hazard identification, risk assessment, safe work practices, and PPE.
